Thursday afternoon advanced.

Hi!

We started off today with an excerpt from a Roddy Doyle book called Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. The narrator spoke about things he and his friends would do as children.
We moved on from this with a quick chat about childhood memories. We looked at some vocabulary to introduce the topic and give some background information. There were also some phrases to give details of a specific event and to look back and reflect.

Language of memory recall

We briefly talked about the topic of child killers then but left it at break time as it was a bit too morbid. Sorry about that guys, my bad!
But on the topic of murder and crime, here's an article referring to the recent 'beautiful day', a whole 24 hours in New York city without any violent crimes being reported!

After the break we took an overall look at phrasal verbs. We went through the various particles and discussed their meanings. It took quite a while but we felt it was worth it. This is what we ended up with....!

Afterwards we took a few phrasal verbs and created a story or dialogue with them. We didn't have a lot of time but they were all pretty good and leave us with an opportunity to spend more time on it next week.

Don't forgot that we have two consolidation weeks coming up now. This is your chance to fill in any holes you feel you have in your English development.

  • What would you like to do?
  • Which grammar points would you like to review?
  • Which skills would you like to concentrate on?

Don't be afraid to ask Rob or myself about anything and feel free to add your suggestions in the comments below.

Homework:
You have your five phrasal verbs, create a story and write in it the comments below. I look forward to reading them!

And farewell to Yejee, Sandra and Ana today. It was great to meet you, keep in touch!
Have a great weekend.

  1. On one occasion I had a friend that I liked. He was always so buzzing with energy that I looked up to him, but he was having a bad time at the moment. Then, I proposed myself to cheer him on.

I rent a car and decided to pick him up at his work. I gave him a hug and I said "Get in the car, we'll go away from the city." He smiled and answered "Thank you, dear. I think this is what I need to wind myself down. Go ahead, let's go somewhere else."

In the theory the plan was great... but, unfortunately, the car ran out of fuel and we walked for hours pointing to a petrol station. In the end, my friend was so detached from work problems as upset with me.

  2. Two people:
A: May you look after my dog tomorrow?
B: Of course, I get along with him.
A: But you know that when he sees a female dog you will have to keep them apart and pick him up.
A: Yes, I know. Don't pick me on.
B:You'll see. You'll put off of having a dog
